WHERE DO WE BEGIN?
This is the day, in early April 2014, I met little Ruby. A vet said that she had 24/48 hours to live, since she was so sick and weighed less than one pound; after losing approximately 2 pounds in the few weeks the first owner had her. I accepted the foster situation and decided to spoil her for her last days. Hand feeding her every 2-3 hours (24/7), holding her constantly, treating her severe hypoglycemia, walking her, etc., stimulated her and she regained her desire to live. Her dull eyes turn bright and full of life. Within a month the vet said she had a complete bill of good health and no complications remained. Woohoo! No more 2–3-hour feedings! I slowly weaned her down to a few small meals a day.
WHERE ARE WE NOW?
Fast forward, ten years, and Ruby is still going strong! Ruby is now a whopping 6 lbs of stubborn Yorkie and a pint-sized anti-stress assistant. She is our little gem and continues to rule the roost.
SO, WHAT HAS RUBY TAUGHT ME?
One’s perception may not necessarily be a reality. When a situation may appear dire, remember Ruby and how she overcame all odds. Consistency, patience, attention to detail, and TLC can make all the difference in the world. Ruby’s survival reminds me of that lesson each and every day. As a result, my approach to business has changed. As much as one may not think they can find a solution, there is ALWAYS hope! Oh, and a little patience, consistency, attention and care!
